What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a very simple treatment, but it’s one that will make your skin feel like a million bucks!

Dermaplaning is the removal of the very top layer of skin with a special blade. The result is freshly exfoliated skin that looks brighter and feels super smooth—smooth like a baby’s bottom. Not only will the procedure leave you with brighter skin, but the process also removes vellus hair (otherwise known as peach fuzz) from your face.

Other benefits of dermaplaning include minimizing the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles and dull skin.

Many people think dermaplaning is just like shaving, but that’s not quite right. While dermaplaning does remove hair from the face, it differs from shaving in many ways. Dermaplaning uses a medical-grade scalpel-like tool. This tool is used to scrape off the top epidermis. Shaving is meant to remove the hair at skin level, and not meant to go beyond the skin. Shaving does not remove skin, so it is not exfoliating your skin like dermaplaning does.

Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types. While using an open blade on your face may sound pretty intense, the procedure is actually non-invasive and should not hurt.

Following a dermaplaning treatment, your face will most likely have a glow and feel smoother and firmer revealing healthier skin. Remember the treatment has exposed a new layer of skin so be sure to wear sunscreen and gentle products to protect your face.

A dermaplaning session lasts about 30-45 minutes. Dermaplaning typically does not hurt and the results last about three weeks.

If you become a Wasatch Back Beauty member, you will receive a monthly dermaplaning session as part of your membership.
